Trainers
-
Initial Protection
Apply a protective spray designed for your specific shoe material. This will create a barrier against stains and moisture.
-
Regular Cleaning
Clean your footwear regularly to prevent dirt build-up. Use a soft brush or cloth to gently remove surface dust and dirt.
For leather and synthetics, use a damp cloth with mild soap. For canvas and fabric, use a gentle laundry detergent mixed with water. Remove the laces and soak them in cool, soapy water – allow them to dry fully before re-lacing. -
Drying
Allow footwear to air dry naturally, away from heat sources like radiators or direct sunlight. Use shoe trees or stuff the shoes with newspaper whilst drying to help maintain their shape.
-
Stain Remover
Tackle stains promptly. For leather, use a dedicated leather cleaner and a soft cloth. For fabric shoes, a specialised stain remover is recommended.
-
Maintaining Shape
Insert shoe trees or similar support when storing your shoes. This helps keep their structure intact and prevents misshaping.
-
Odour Control
Keep your trainers fresh by using breathable shoe inserts or odour-fighting sprays. Regularly remove and air your insoles to prevent odour build-up.
-
Storage Solutions
Store in a cool, dry place - ideally in their original boxes or dust bags to protect them from dust and light. Avoid stacking shoes on top of each other to prevent deformation.
Leather
-
Clean Gently
Remove dirt using a soft-bristle brush. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth, avoiding excess moisture. For deeper cleaning, apply a premium leather cleaner in gentle circular motions, then wipe off any residue with a clean cloth.
-
Condition Regularly
Leather requires nourishment to stay supple. Apply a high-quality leather conditioner evenly using a soft cloth. Allow it to absorb fully to restore softness and natural sheen.
-
Polish to Perfection
Use a polish that matches your shoe colour or opt for a neutral alternative. Apply in circular motions and buff with a soft cloth to achieve a refined shine.
-
Protect Against the Elements
Use a waterproofing spray specially designed for luxury leather. Store shoes away from heat and direct sunlight. Cedar shoe trees are ideal, as they can help maintain shape and absorb moisture.
-
Tackle Stains Promptly
Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth. For tougher marks, use a leather-specific stain remover – always test it on a hidden area first. Recondition afterward to keep the leather nourished.
-
Maintain with Care
Clean, condition and polish regularly. Avoid wearing the same pair every day to reduce overuse. For long-term maintenance, seek professional care when needed.
Suede
-
Protect Before Wear
Apply a suede protector spray before first use to create a barrier against stains and moisture. Always patch test on a hidden area first to ensure it doesn’t alter the colour or texture.
-
Brush Regularly
Use a soft suede brush to remove dirt and maintain the nap. Brush gently in one direction. For tougher marks, use a suede eraser.
-
Clean Spills Promptly
Blot moisture with a dry cloth immediately. For persistent stains, use a suede cleaner – follow the product instructions carefully and always patch test beforehand.
-
Avoid Moisture
Keep suede dry and avoid wearing in wet or snowy conditions. If the shoes do get wet, allow them to air dry naturally and away from heat sources like radiators or hair dryers. Use newspaper or shoe trees to help retain their shape during drying.
-
Store with Care
Store suede shoes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid damp or confined spaces. Use dust bags or original boxes to protect them from dust and damage.
-
Freshen Naturally
Ensure shoes are completely dry before storing. Use breathable inserts, and if any odours develop, you can sprinkle baking soda inside and leave it overnight before shaking it out.
-
Tackle Scuffs Gently
Lightly brush minor scuffs with a suede brush. For deeper marks, use a suede eraser. If the scuffs persist, consult a local cobbler for professional care.
Shearling
-
How To Care
To maintain the pristine condition of your shearling footwear, gently brush away dirt with a soft brush designed for delicate material. Avoid exposing shearling to excessive moisture, as it can damage fibres and affect the texture. Regularly air out your shoes to prevent odour build-up and consider using a shearling-specific conditioner to keep the fibres soft, supple, and vibrant.
Uppers
-
Leather
The natural grain of leather uppers not only enhances the shoe’s style but also allows it to conform to the shape of your foot for a personalised fit. To keep them looking their best, regularly clean with a soft cloth and leather cleaner, and condition the material to maintain its suppleness and shine. Protect against moisture and stains by applying a suitable leather protector.
-
Patent
The sleek, reflective surface of a patent upper elevates both classic and contemporary styles with its polished appearance. To maintain its pristine finish, wipe gently with a damp cloth and mild soup solution to remove dirt and smudges. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive moisture, which can dull the shine or cause damage.
-
Suede
The unique nap of the suede provides a luxurious feel and subtle depth of colour. To keep it in top condition, regularly brush with a suede brush to lift away dust and restore texture. Address stains promptly with a suede eraser, and avoid exposure to moisture, which can damage the delicate fibres.
-
Glitter and Fabric
To keep your glitter and fabric statement pieces looking their best, regular care is essential. Gently clean the surface with a soft brush or cloth – never submerge in water. Please note that a small amount of glitter loss on initial use is normal. Avoid contact with rain, groundwater, and any liquids containing solvents or alcohol, as these may harm the printed surface.
-
Printed Pony Skins
To preserve the luxury feel of your unique Holland Cooper printed pony skin footwear, gently brush away dirt using a soft brush. Avoid excessive moisture, as it can damage the delicate fibres and finish. Steer clear of contact with rain, groundwater, and liquids containing solvents or alcohol, as these may harm the printed surface.
Soles
-
Leather
Crafted from premium natural leather, our soles mould to your foot over time, offering a custom fit. They deliver exceptional durability and comfort with each wear - true to British luxury heritage.
Our classic Racing Green colour soles are created with a high gloss lacquer applied to a natural leather sole. The colour wears away on areas which come into contact with the ground. This is not a manufacturing defect; it is simply normal wear and tear. The green soles on our shoes are fragile and must be tried on a clean carpeted surface. Returns cannot be made if there is damage to the green sole.
-
Rubber and EVA
Rubber and EVA soles provide a blend of durability and comfort, making them ideal for a variety of everyday activities.
- Rubber soles have excellent grip and traction making them perfect for slip resistance and longevity in diverse conditions.
- EVA soles offer lightweight cushioning and shock absorption, enhancing comfort and reducing fatique.
To keep these soles in top condition, regularly clean them to remove dirt and debris and inspect for signs of wear to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
By following these care guidelines, your Holland Cooper items will continue to offer both style and comfort, season after season. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, our dedicated team is here to help you.
